Elections highlight Md. Jr. Hereford Preview Show

GAITHERSBERG, Md. — The Maryland Junior Hereford Association Preview Show was June 17-18 at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds.
Officer elections were held during Saturday’s annual junior membership meeting.
The 2017-18 officers are: President Wyatt Debnam of Damascus; Vice President Ella Jacobs of Frederick; Secretary Karson Fahey of New Windsor and Treasurer Madelyn Grimmel of Jarrettsville.
More than 60 youth from around the state participated in Saturday’s cattle judging contest.
Champions were: Senior – Wyatt Debnam; Intermediate – Christopher Shelton of Frederick and Junior – Wil Emory of King George, Va.
Rounding out the day on Saturday was the very competitive Showmanship competition.
Receiving the prestigious belt buckles were: Lexi Winkler of Woodbine; Intermediate – Ian Forbes of Churchville; Junior – Ella Jacobs of Frederick and PeeWee Chad Shelton of Frederick
Sponsored by the Pollettes the girls chosen for the Maryland Hereford Royalty program are ambassadors for the breed, the Maryland Hereford Association and each of the breeders in the state.
Sunday morning began with opening ceremonies where the Maryland Pollettes crowned their 2017-18 Royalty: Queen – Taylor Buffington of New Windsor; Princess – Kaylie Shelton, of Frederick; Alternate Princess – Sierra Carter of Frederick; Junior Princesses – Holly Shelton of Frederick and Ava Grabowski of Jarrettsville and Princess In Training – Ella Deford of Jarrettsville.
Receiving the Pollettes scholarships were Tucker Schmidt of Taneytown who will be attending West Virginia University and Kendall Harshman of Mt. Airy who will be attending Oklahoma State University.
Wyatt Debnam was recognized as the 2017 Outstanding Junior Member.
45 juniors exhibited 65 head of cattle to judge Ryan Cummins of Katy, Texas. The winners are:

Some 30 juniors with 45 head of cattle will be representing Maryland in Louisville, Ky., July 15-21 at the Junior National Hereford Expo.
