Shorthorn breeders gather for Eastern National

WEST FRIENDSHIP, Md. — Christina Hash of Berryville, Va., had the Supreme Champion of the 26th Eastern Regional Shorthorn Show held June 15-16, at the Howard County Fairgrounds. She is DJS Cherri 105, the grand champion of the Purebred Shorthorn Heifer Show and a February junior yearling that was first junior champion heifer of the open division and the junior division.
The Eastern Regional Shorthorn Show was started 26 years ago by a group of Shorthorn breeders and is dedicated to “the dreamers and builders,” including the late George Bowman, who made it a reality and who have helped make it a success.
The Showmanship classes and the steer show were held on June 15, followed by a dinner, and the breeding cattle show on June 16.
The Reserve Grand Champion Female of the Owned division was the senior champion female, Sull Grey’s Bo 0667, a September 2010 heifer exhibited by Mandy Clark of Mercersburg, Pa. She was also Grand Champion of the Junior Show.
The Grand Champion Bull of the Open Division was the junior champion bull, White Birch Tidal Wave 411 exhibited by White Birch Farm, the Schneiders of Butler, Pa.
The Reserve Grand Champion Open Show bull was Benners Primo Y1 ET, a September 2011 exhibited by Emily Benner of Mifflintown, Pa. He was the senior bull calf champion and Grand Champion Bull of the Junior Show.
Konnar Miller of Smithsburg, Md., had the Reserve Grand Champion Bull of the Junior Show, Willie of Destiny Knoll, a March 2012 calf that was also reserve junior bull calf champion of the Open Division.
The Grand Champion Female of the Shorthorn Plus Division was also Grand Champion of the Junior Shorthorn Plus Female Show, Midnight Fools Legend  101, exhibited by Jared Harshman of Frederick, Md.
The Reserve Grand Champion Shorthorn Plus Female was also Reserve Grand Champion of the Junior Show, 401Y Miss Maryland NRB, an April 2011 junior yearling, owned by Whitney Wastler of Middletown, Md.
The Grand Champion Purebred Shorthorn Steer was MH Wingman, weighed 1,228 pounds and was exhibited by Blake Herman of Beavertown, Pa.
The Reserve Champion Purebred Shorthorn Steer was MAF Jack, weighing 1,305 pounds and shown by Jonathan Fleming of Mt. Airy, Md.
In the Shorthorn Plus Steer Show, the Grand Champion was Leroy, a 1,097 pound steer exhibited by Kelsi Lawson of Leesburg, Va. The Reserve Grand was Piddle WRR weighing in at 1,315 pounds and owned by Whitney Whastler.
Grand Champion Showman was Konnar Miller.
White Birch Farm was winner of the Open Super Cow Class and Aaron Clark of Mercersberg, Pa., won the Junior Class.
Charlie Marsch, Marsch Show Cattle of Green Lane, Pa. had the Best Four Head owned by exhibitor.
Marsch Show Cattle also had the Pair of Females Bred & Owned by Exhibitor.
Dr. Raymond Ediger of Frederick, Md., was the Premier Breeder and White Birch Farm was the Premier Exhibitor.
