Virginia Tech to host research field day on June 6

PAINTER, Va. (May 24, 2016) — Virginia Tech’s Eastern Shore Agricultural Research and Extension Center has scheduled the 2016 Research Field Day for Monday June 6 at 3 p.m. Registration is free, open to the public, and dinner will be provided.
Research projects to be showcased include vegetables, oilseed and grain crops; cover crops and soil fertility; plasticulture and row covers; innovative weed management; insect pest management; disease management; Food Safety Modernization Act preparedness and on-farm food safety.
The research center, located at 33446 Research Drive in Painter, conducts basic and applied research on more than 25 agricultural crops including alfalfa, barley, broccoli, cabbage, cantaloupe, collards, cotton, cucumbers, dry beans, edamame, eggplant, field corn, lettuce, lima beans, peppers, potatoes, pumpkin, snap beans, soybeans, spinach, squash, sunflowers, sweet corn, switchgrass, tomatoes, watermelon, wheat and zucchini.
